The Arborescent Series is the one that may speak most directly to my heart. This series was started in 2006, and to-date includes over thirty five major pieces, some of which are the largest I’ve done measuring up to four feet by nineteen feet.
Part of what makes this series resonate with me is that I grew up in a house designed by my father, nestled in the woods of Ithaca, New York. Many hours of my childhood were spent outdoors, surrounded by pine trees, mossy patches, fern glades, and gnarled roots. For anyone who has traveled to Ithaca and visited the gorges and waterfalls of the region, you’ll be able to relate. There is a feeling of time’s passage, eons in fact, as nature has carved the landscape and blanketed the earth with a nutritive bed of detritus. To this day, I feel most connected, most at ease, and most whole when in the woods.
Pictured here is Taughannock Falls, one of the many beautiful places in and around the Ithaca region.
